water leak left a white bloom over t/c tiles

Asked by Doreen Elmes from Australia: |
A water leak not detected for a couple of days has left a white bloom over terra cotta tiles. We think the tiles have been sealed. The white bloom has faded slightly but is still there after 5 or 6 days. What should we do? We don't know the type of sealant used. |

I would give the Tiles a couple of weeks to settle then try a coat or two of Wax, either Bri-wax or a Bees wax, it may work as most older Terracottas tend to be waxed, if it doesnt however you may have to strip off all the old Sealer and start again, suggest you read up on how this is best achieved by visiting our Terracotta page via the following link: http://www.tiledoctor.co.uk/Terracotta.html
