Old kitchen quarry tiles with pitted holes

Asked by Kim Swithinbank from Wiltshire: We have just uncovered a kitchen floor of black and red square quarry tiles. Mostly they are in good condition and just need cleaning and sealing. However some are quite badly pitted, mostly the black ones, where it looks as if heavy objects may have landed. Can the holes be filled and then sealed? Do I need to repaint the tiles at all or will cleaning and sealing restore the look?

TileProf says: Best to clean them up first with Tile Doctor Pro-clean, see what needs to be done regarding the pitting and fill in with a Black Grout, you may find that Black Grout go a paler shade when they dry, as I often find, an answer to this is to Grout Colour them after sealing, so Grout first, then clean again, leave to dry at least 24 hours, then apply 4 coats of Seal and Go, leave a further 24 hours and then apply a Black Grout colourant to the Grout where its required, links to products mentioned below: http://www.tiledoctor.co.uk/TileGroutCleaner.html http://www.tiledoctor.co.uk/GroutColourant.html http://www.tiledoctor.co.uk/TD-Seal-Go.html Russell Taylor Tile Doctor Ltd
