Crumbling tile surface

Asked by Gill Sibson from Spain: We live in a restored finca with old terracotta tiles. The tiles surface seems to be disintigrating, turning into a red sandy substance. The house has been damp over the winter which seems to have made the problem worse. What do you recommend? Many thanks

gpslancaster says: Sounds like it needs to be sealed, suggest you give them a good clean first, let them dry and then re-seal with a topical sealer, we don't ship to Spain as the goods are Fragile and they never get there in one piece, but your local Tile Shop will have something similar, without a sealer in place the Terra-cotta will get worse.
