Travertine protection under desk

I have travertine in my office and to protect the area in front of the desk, I purchased a hard plastic floor mat. It appears to have changed the color on the tiles right under the mat. What can I use to protect the travertine from the plastic rollers on my desk chair, without discoloring the tiles?

The problem could be that the plastic has formed a seal over the tile that won't let the Tiles or Sealer that is on them breathe, thus causing the discolouration, the answer is simply to change the Plastic matt to a fabric type (without any Plastic backing) and this will stop the problem happening again.
