Tile Restoration

Asked by Craig from Midlands: Hi,I need to restore some old quarry tiles in my hallway.I want to re grout if possible and seal. What grout should I use and do you seal tiles as I think they are laid on earth?? Thanks

gpslancaster says: Thanks for the e-mail, best to click onto this link for more information on Quarry Tiles http://www.tiledoctor.co.uk/QuarryTile.html Regarding the sealing, we use Seal and Go, if you seal while the weather is dry (like it is at present) then we find as long as the sealer has the usual 24 hours to cure, damp problems are limited, if you seal while it's wet outside this can rise up and cause an efflorescence on the floor (white crystals). There is no permanent cure for this, apart from taking up the Tiles and Concrete and fitting in place a Damp Proof Course (D.P.C.) and the re-tiling when the concrete has cured Russell Taylor Tile Doctor Lancaster
