Linseed oil on slate floor

Asked by gabrielle Haywood from Kent: |
We have recently had a large area tiled in black rivened slate and the tilers finished the floor with boiled linseed oil. The finish is terrible and I am forever cleaning it! How should it have been finished and how do I go about getting it to the right finished state?
Thanks |

Hi Gabrielle,
Thanks for the e-mail, Black Slate has an Oil content to it unlike Other Slate colours, hence the colour, as such they need to be thorougly cleaned before any sealing is attempted, Boiled linseed oil on its is won is not a sealer anyway and I can only think mixed with the oil in the Slate thus giving it a terrble finish.
We have Tile Doctor through out the country who can do a professional job for you and I would highly recommend you use them if you want a good finish this time, click on the link bwlow if you need our services.
