Stained grout

Asked by Richard Basker from Landscove, Devon: Several vertical and horizontal lines of grout in a shower have been heavily stained with Algae/mildew/mould. Have tried neat Domestos with little impact. we have a septic tank and I am concerned about the effect that grout cleaners will have on the workings of the bacteria in the tank. Are any of your products suitable for this problem?

TileProf says: Hi Richard, Better check with your Tank peolpe about dilution rates I know these Septic Tanks can take chemicals but they have their limit, the amount you would need to clean your shower cubicle grout would be less than 500ml of product so if rinsed down would be fine, but double check with your septic tank people first, I would use a Alkaline cleaner like oxy-pro,see link below as this will negate the corrosive affects of the adic damage on your grout and help you get the grout clean again, you can always use a Grout colourant kit for best results.
