Tiles covered with leveling compound

I've lifted old vinyl flooring and found quarry tiles underneath. Unfortunately some areas are covered with what appears to be some form of leveling compound. I have been able to chisel some of this away but don't want to damage the tiles. Are you able to suggest a better way to remove it? Many thanks |

If its a cement based leveling compound and not a latex one then these are the hardest to get off, I have heard a whacker plate is good at breaking the compound up but it may upset the Tiles as well to some degree.
if it is a latex leveling compound then I would try some of our Remove and Go and Nano-tech ultra clean, mix it in and then leave it for a few hours to soak in then use a scrubbing brush and some warm water and scrub up the old solution and use a wet vac to suck it up.
