Lifting Victorian tiles without breaking

Very damp solid floor with Victorian tiles on one inch cement over poorly compacted hardcore. Need to lift tiles to install suspended wood floor but trying not to break them. Any recommendations? |

Hi Gina,
We find Vibration works well, so a whacker plate covered with a thick towel will vibrate the floor enough for the tiles to come loose but with out breaking them in little pieces, this is a suggestion to try it this way, we find it works well but every floor is different so proceed with caution and test a small area first.
Or the old fashioned method is to simply lift them with a hammer and chisel from underneath and to the side of the Tile, this is hard work but also can work well.
