white discoloration

Asked by julian mlynarski from london: |
We have red herringbone pattern Victorian/Edwardian terracotta? tiles in our hallway inside a patterned border which is fine. They were under carpet for years. We have a tiler trying to repair/restore, but after much cleaning they keep drying (taking agess to do so) with what looks like a white salty deposit which shows through a sealer. Any ideas please? |

Hi Julian,
Best not to do this sort of work in winter as your house from the sounds of it doesnt have a Damp proff membrane installed, this woirk is best done in the Summer months otherwise the effloresnce < white salts > is going to be a problem.
