old and stained
Asked by Robyn from Australia:
Hi Mr Tile Doctor!! I clean a local shopping Centre, in a Western Australian suburb, and the tiles inside the mall are grey, still kind of shiny, but stained. Any spills which are there longer than five seconds, eat into the surface of the tile and instantly stain. There are so many now, that the floor often looks like it hasn't been cleaned, and this reflects back on me, I know it is clean, because I mop the whole thing every day!! but still would like to know just what I can do, in regards to chemical stripping, and some sort of protective coating, to bring them back to how they would have looked over 20 years ago when the centre was built. By the way, I am not there from 8-5pm, and even if I was, by the time I got from one end to the other, the stains seep in after a second!! Any advice would be great, thanks so much.

Hi Robyn, You need a buffing machine with say a Diamond mantenance pad on them like Twister Green pads, Mopping is not going to do anything for these Tiles at all apart from getting rid of the dust layer. Also they need to be Sealed, if you have no experience in this field then the Mall needs to get someone in who does as you could make a right mess of it if you dont know what your doing.
